When I set out to have a physical space of my own for my little dream 4 years ago, I had no idea what the future would bring.  All I knew is that I had to try and see if this was possible.  Thanks to all of you, and the community in Ottawa, it has been,-and we have exceeded our own expectations.

The growth of the business has been such a fun ride, and it was around Christmas this year when the shop was bustling, that Miss Kate, the staff, and I faced a serious reality- our space at 507 Bronson was no longer working for us.  Gaining new clientele, wholesalers, and being picked up by Farm Boy has only confirmed our gut feeling.

This is why we have chosen to leave 507 Bronson Ave at the end of this summer.

Next month, Mandi Loo and a squad of friends and family will begin preparation on our new space in Lowertown, at 112 Nelson St. Unit 101-C.  Nelson St. is just off of Rideau St, and around the corner from our friends at the Bytowne Cinema.  Those of you who have come to Bronson via car before will be delighted to hear that 112 Nelson St. has its own parking lot, but more importantly, it has twice the space and more possibilities for us to keep growing and being Ottawa’s first 100% vegan bakery.  This means more production, more treats, more events, bigger baking classes, and better service to you!

Once we have an exact move date, our social media and website will be immediately updated.

I’d like to thank all of you for your support, and I hope we will continue to have it during and after our big move.

As many of you know, we took Little Jo Berry on earlier this year as a baker and – let’s be honest – as eye candy. We let her loose in the kitchen to create something for us to sell on her behalf. We are proud to announce that we will now be offering a raw, vegan, gluten-free, no added sugar (they have raw agave nectar) treat in 3 different flavours!

Now available are Lemon Lime, Raspberry Lemon and Chocolate Banana! For our introductory weekend, they will be $3.75 + HST. We’ve already sold a bunch, and they haven’t even been announced!

Starting next week, they’ll be $4.00 + HST in store, or $42 for a dozen when ordered in advance.

So, in case you didn’t know, there’s this band that I kinda like. They’re called Propagandhi, and they’ve been my favourite band since I was in grade 10 (aka quite a while now). They came to Ottawa last week to play a show and promote their newest album, Failed States. Thanks to my new favourite person on the planet, Shawn Scallen, I was given the opportunity to make a cake for the band on behalf of the bakery. I decided to hand paint the covers of their 6 full-length albums. I actually ended up heading down to Toronto last Wednesday to see them play there, as well (I LIKE THEM A LOT, OK!?). That afternoon, I set up a little workshop in my brother’s apartment (thanks, Chris!) and painted the mini LP’s. I’m pretty pleased at how they turned out.

We drove straight home to Ottawa after the Toronto show (I had a cake to finish!), and I was lucky enough to be able to actually bring the cake to them before the show. I can’t express how happy I was to be able to do this – I know I’m a total nerd, but I really don’t care. The guys were so incredibly nice, and I promise I wasn’t too ridiculous or giddy. Anyway, they invited me (and my brother) to come back after the show to have the cake with them. Here’s some pictures!

Again, I know I’m a total nerd, but thank you so much to the guys from the band for being so nice and putting up with me being a ridiculous fan. Their tour manager was fantastic, too… it was just the best experience!

Did I mention I love working at this bakery? Cuz I really do.

Westminster Pet Sanctuary’s Salty (a soft, cuddly, male medium-haired tabby) and Pepper (his short-haired black sister) have CH, which stands for Cerebellar Hypoplasia or “Wobblers”. Like any other cat, they love to play, cuddle, run around and tackle toes and each other. There’s no need to feel sorry for them; their lack of balance and clumsiness is all they’ve ever known, and it doesn’t stop them from -carefully- climbing up and down carpeted stairs, going outside (on the deck, on a leash), running after dust-bunnies and toys, caring for (and tackling!) each other, and yearning for cuddles a few times a day. Salty is more affected than Pepper, so he sometimes requires supervision, but if you have the space in your home/heart and an interest in fostering or adopting two lovely 2-year old kitties, they’ll reward you with purrs and snuggles.

This year, we are holding a raffle to win one of the many prizes that we have had so kindly donated to us by such fantastic businesses as Victoire, Market Organics, Gypsy & Co, Beleza Spa, Lush, Second Cup and many more. All ticket sales will go to benefit the Westminster Pet Sanctuary! The raffle tickets will go up for sale as of Saturday, October 6th, and will cost $2 each, or 6 for $10. The draw will take place at the birthday party at 3pm. You do not have to be here to claim the prize, as our tickets have a spot for a name and phone number to be written on the back. Should we go 7 days after the draw takes place without hearing back from the winners who are not in attendance, a new winner will be drawn. There are a ton of prizes to be won!

Cupcake Photo Booth!

The fantabulous Alyssa is back this year and ready to go! Our giant cupcake will be out for its yearly photo op – this year, we will be taking the photos and posting them online for you to see, save, and print as you wish. Donations to the photographer for her hard work are appreciated!

Make sure you come on by to pick up some lovely vegan products from the lovely ladies at Lush. They always bring such wonderful goodies!

Roller Derby Girls!

Hopefully the pavement is in by the time our party rolls around – these roller derby girls will be rollerskating free Auntie Loo’s Treats samples to all of our guests (while supplies last)! Don’t miss out on getting samples of all of your favourite treats (and some new ones, too!).

Vegan BBQ!

The amazing people from Westminster Pet Sanctuary will be hosting a vegan BBQ again this year, where you can come on down to get a delicious, cruelty-free lunch! All proceeds will be going towards helping out the animals at the sanctuary.

Pascale’s Ice Cream!

NEW this year! As many of you know, we have collaborated on a few things with Pascale over the summer (namely, our scrumptious ice cream cakes!) and we are so happy to have her join us at our birthday. She will be out here with her ice cream trike, so make sure you show up to our party hungry!

If you were at our last birthday, you will hopefully have seen our Guestbook Cake – we loved that thing like there was no tomorrow. Thank you for joining us for our Easter announcement! We have had many inquiries regarding what we’re doing for Easter… so here you go!

We are making handmade cupcake toppers to go in the tops of pre-ordered cupcakes – refer to the photo for an idea of what they’ll look like! We are offering these to be in Carrot Cake, Chocolate PB, or a surprise assortment. It will be $32/dozen for these adorable treats!

Additionally, we’ll have Apple Pies prepped and ready for you to pop into the oven for a fresh, and easy dessert! These will be $15 plus HST.
